FEATURE REQUEST: SUPPORT FOR SWIMLANES IN DIAGRAMS

In some diagrams (UML Sequences for example) it is important to be able to define swimlanes. Of course we would have edges linking nodes potentially in different swimlanes.

Also, as an extension to swimlanes (horizontal or vertical), is it possible to decompose the diagram in compartments like a chess board. I have seen an example that allows defining compartments inside nodes, but again it should be possible to draw edges that span different compartments?
