Created attachment 260904 [details] Error message telling me I need 1.7, after I was told to install 1.6 I am trying to install Eclipse IDE on El Capitan. I tried both via the installer and via manual download. When I try to run the installer, or try to run the manually installed program, I get a message that I need Java legacy 1.6. I used the More Info button in the dialog to download and install that version. After I install that and try again, I get a message that 1.6 is no good and Version 1.7 or higher is required. I deleted 1.6 and installed the most current version, Version 8 Update 77, and tried again, only to wind up back where I started, being told I need 1.6. So basically I am unable to install Eclipse.
Is the Oomph logo that I see in the Warning triangle? Let me guess: you're installing with Oomph, and it needs at least JRE 1.7 And then, after you installed Eclipse for development you get compilation errors, as you need multiple JREs for building a specific project, as an example JDT. Am I correct ? If so, you should install multiple JREs, and give Eclipse the locations via menu: Windows > Preferences > Installed JREs If not, please explain also symptoms for the message that requires JRE 1.6
Unless Oomph has its own native executable for Mac like it does for Windows we can't do better than the behavior of Eclipse's native executable. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 477998 ***
Assigned all resolved Oomph bugs without a version to 1.4.
