As Bug 472614 was fixed, I suggest to add the EGit auto-importer to the regular features.

EGit has some important "restrictions" about backward-compatibility. So it's not possible to make the new importer the default one in EGit at the moment.
The plugin will be shipped separately. Maybe we can make an feature from it, and have the main EGit feature optionally install it (or do anyone know a way to have optional bundles/fragments in a feature).
