Not sure what the exact component this is, but Java Editor that comes with Mars Java development set of plugins etc (not JEE) is now treating the backspace key like the delete key (so instead of backing up, it deletes characters to the right of the cursor.) Updated from Kepler & it was OK there. -- Configuration Details -- Product: Eclipse 4.5.1.20150917-1200 (org.eclipse.epp.package.java.product) Installed Features: org.eclipse.jdt 3.11.1.v20150904-0015
Please download the pure Eclipse SDK for Neon M5: http://download.eclipse.org/eclipse/downloads/drops4/S-4.6M5-201601282000/ and report back whether the problem persists.
Created attachment 259938 [details] Configuration text after updating Mars1 to Neon The issue still persists. (Note, I tried installing with eclipse-SDK-4.6M5-win32-x86_64.zip(just unzipping it) and this would not run. The sofware repository http://download.eclipse.org/eclipse/updates/4.6milestones/S-4.6M5-201601282000 appeared empty. I installed from http://download.eclipse.org/eclipse/updates/4.6milestones and this had errors installing and instead it did a modified install, leaving some things as they were from the Mars1 version.

Oh, no I am running 64-bit java 7u45: Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_45-b18) Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 24.45-b08, mixed mode) I downloaded the 64-bit version & ran it and it also failed, different reason. In both cases, it gets a dialog "An error has occurred. See the log file ..." I will attach the log files from both.

Looks like you're requiring java 1.8 for Neon?

I also am seeing this same issue in the XML editor (so chances are, I have the product selection wrong for this bug.)
I just did a fresh install from a 64-bit Mars2 zip and it works ok there. Not sure if it was fixed from Mars1 or invalid due to some issue using "update" previously over a 32-bit Kepler but giving you-all the benefit of the doubt and marking it as closed-invalid.
FYI, it started happening again, after I installed a couple of plugins. Here is the resolution for it: http://superuser.com/questions/1008690/backspace-key-delete-forward-in-eclipse

Any particular reason you have edited a quoted message and switched a URL? That should never be done as it implies it was offered by the cited contact. The previous URL is still a valid link.
