Description Vincent Richard CLA 2016-01-12 08:26:11 EST
The drop down box of color selection presents the custom colors after the built in ones.

If a user defines colors, it would make sense for him to view his user defined colors first, thus not having to scroll each time a selection has to be made.

That makes sense and needs to be discussed. Nevertheless, we have currently not planned to work on it in the following releases.

Rewording in a more general way allows for other implementations of the requirement. I've actually implemented the "naive" version of putting the user-defined colors first in the combo, and the result is worse in terms of ergonomics: because the preset value will always be a pre-defined color (e.g. "white"), when the user opens the combo he sees "white" at the top, then the next predefined colors, and if he scrolls down to find his custom colors (like he has been used to do for years), he will not find them anymore. Visually, when the combo opens, it is not obvious at all that there are other choices above the current selection. It depends on the OS and theming, but in many "modern" OSes, the scrollbar which hints about that is very small, or even invisible by default.

I'm keeping the ticket open, as the requirement is valid, but the obvious implementation is not.

Note that the whole "combo box with semi-randomly-ordered pure text labels" is not a good UI to select colors anyway, regardless of this specific issue.
