In the appearance view, we provide to the user the ability to choose a color of diagram element. However, if the style is a gradient, we have specified in the mapping style a foreground color and a background color. The Fill color button will change both the foreground and background colors. 
It would be better if we had two different fill color buttons, one for foreground and for background, if the style of diagram element is detected as using a gradient color.
