Sccenarion:
* create a VSP
* create some element like a diagram description and node mapping
* select an element in the VSM and press delete key -> nothing is deleted

On Mac Os 10.11, I do not reproduce the issue, I am able to delete any VSM element (from an existing one or a newly created one) with the keyboard delete combination (Fn-Backspace as I have no Delete key).

That could be a conflict with another plugin (It seems to me CDO would contribute an override for the delete action). Laurent : what was your environment and what was installed in it ?

In an environment without CDO or with CDO 4.3M2, I am able to delete a VSM element. 

With CDO 4.4 I cannot delete VSM elements as seen by Laurent.

Seems to be the same issue than Bug 469399
