Description Riyad Kalla CLA 2003-11-22 18:59:31 EST
Following the vein of support IBM has provided for UI development, even more
important in today's market is web development. The JavaFamily plugin provides a
SAMPLE plugin for someone to take and run with, when in reality no one would be
better suited to finish this plugin as full-fledged JSP support as the Eclipse
team and the original author of the plugin instead of waiting for an open source
group to adopt it (everyone seems to have their own home-grown solutions).

There are more than enough requests for JSP/web development support in Eclipse
(most notably XML and JSP support). Turning the JavaFamily plugin into a JSP
plugin would be a good move in this direction for the 3.0 or 3.1 release.

This is a request for discussion instead of a bug report. Please let me know
your thoughts on this.

Thank you,
Riyad

This is the purpose of the webtools project, it won't be part of JDT which is
offering pure Java experience.

What does it mean to target the M8 release for this now? Are you just bookeeping
bugs, or this functionality is targeted for M8?

If you read comment #1, you'll see that we will *not* fix it in JDT Core.
When closing a defect, we usually set the target milestone for bookkeeping
purpose.
