M5a I wrote a to-Unix line endings program for Java files, but accidentally wrote integer text rather than characters to the output file. As a result some *.java files contained very long sequences of digit characters. Silly me. But Eclipse hangs. Unable to reproduce the hang with the given input line. Could you please attach one (or part) of those .java files which causes the hang?
Maybe it's not just one bad marker but many; my stupid program was converting many files. The problem is in a builder and builders can be pretty stupid if they fail to build. Just looking at the Javadoc: /** * Returns whether the given object is a valid attribute value. Returns * either the attribute or an equal canonical substitute. */ protected static Object checkValidAttribute(Object value) { the subsequent Assert.isTrue(false, msg); is a violation. Surely the marker should be trimmed, perhaps a log message entered, but the trimmed marker should be returned? if (value == null) return null; is also a violation of the Javadoc contract. Surely there should be a NULL canonical substitute that is returned?
This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.
