The Hudson email-ext plugin should support the TEST_COUNTS variable, which displays the number of unit tests. It was first added in v2.24.1 of the Jenkins email-ext plugin.

This would make it much easier to embed a test summary into build emails, for times when $FAILED_TESTS is too verbose.
