Description Jacob S CLA 2012-11-20 17:39:07 EST
I installed a .json Editor (http://sourceforge.net/projects/eclipsejsonedit/) which didn't work (possibly not your problem).

Then I tried to associate JSON files with the JavaScript Editor: Preferences > General > Editors > File Associations > *.json

1. There was an existing entry that associated json with the editor mentioned above (which doesn't work). I removed the existing (default) Associated Editor and added JavaScript Editor and made it the default. No change.

2. Restarted Eclipse. No change.

3. Went back to File Associations, and it had reverted back to the previous JSON Editor. Removed it, and restarted Eclipse; no change and it reverted again.

4. Uninstalled the JSON Editor and restarted Eclipse; went back to File Associations and the JSON Editor was still listed but the icon next to it was "blank" (looks like any empty document).

5. Removed *.json and restarted Eclipse.

6. Went back to File Associations and *.json was back (with the Associated Editor set to the non-existant JSON Editor).

7. Uninstalled Eclipse (emptied trash) and reinstalled.

8. Went to File Associations and *.json was listed with the non-existant JSON Editor.

9. Removed *.json and manually added it back. Added JavaScript Editor under Associated Editors and set it to default. No change.

10. Restarted Eclipse and went back to File Associations. Non-existant JSON Editor was back listed as the default Associated Editor and JavaScript Editor was not listed.
