- clone an empty git repository
- share an Eclipse project into that repository
- right-click the project and select "Team > Commit"
- double-click one of the files in the commit dialog

You get the error message "Getting HEAD commit failed".
Instead, EGit should show a compare dialog with only the workspace file, and no remote file.
