This would be a first step of implementing the #386829. 

Actually a lot of the users feedback is about the long cycle (bridge -> codegen -> runtime) between the modifying something in the GMFGraph and seeing how the changes affected the diagram. 

At the first step even the read-only mode would be a huge step forward. 
The next step would be to revive existing (but outdated) experimental code (see [].graphdef.editor plugin) that deals with the graphical properties (dimensions, colors etc) and layouts. 

Finally, ability to see how the final editpart may look for different sizes should transform that into the full-featured dra2wd wysiwig editor.
