After a reference search (either through the Java Search UI or Shift-Ctrl-G), I  suggest that the Search view shows all lines involving the variable (or method), similarly to what has been implemented for Text Search (see bug 47136). In other words, the Search View would show all concrete matches instead of "foo() (11 matches)". The main advantage would be to quickly grasp the overall usage of a code element.
