Build Identifier: I20120315-1300

OS: Windows 7 SP1 Professional Japanese Edition
JDK: JRE 1.7.0 IBM Windows AMD 64 build pwa6470-20110906_01
Locale:Japanese

When I begin to edit texts in Java editor, the object selected in Package Explorer disappears. This problem happens in 4.2, but does not happen in 3.8.

Please see the attached screen capture.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Create a Java project.
2. Create a Java class file.
3. Focus on the source file, and edit texts. Object name such as project name disappears.

I can't reproduce. Can you try in a fresh workspace and list all steps? In your screenshot, the project is selected in the Package Explorer, and more files and projects are visible. So there must be more steps than the 3 you gave. If the mouse needs to stay in the Package Explorer to reproduce, then also mention the mouse location in your steps.

Hint: To quickly create a Java project and a .java file, just paste this to the Package Explorer:

public class aaaa {

}

This build is two months old. Please retry with 4.2 M7.

I could reproduce the same symptom with M7. However, I could not reproduce this symptom on other Windows 7 OSes. I'm not sure the specific reproducing steps for this symptom, so I'm closing this report.
