Description Jörg Thönnes CLA 2012-03-21 09:33:15 EDT
Build Identifier:

It seems that since the migration of the user names to a common place
on Eclipse some weeks / months ago the encoding of my name with German umlauts
is wrong.

It should be "Jörg Thönnes".

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Just look at bugs I am on cc or I comment on, as this one.
2.
3.

As you see: "Jörg Thönnes" should be "Jörg Thönnes".
This annoys me quite a while...

Any news here? Or what is the correct way to report this kind of issues?

Denis, do you have any idea what is going on here?
Comment 6 Denis Roy CLA 2012-04-18 10:25:55 EDT
Apologies for the delay -- I'm looking into this now.

Can you try something? Simply "log out" of Bugzilla[1], and re-login to Bugzilla.

I changed my name to yours in the site login, and it didn't update in Bugzilla until I logged out and logged back in. And as you can see, it displays correctly.

We weren't updating the Bugzilla name when a name change was occurring through My Account [1], but we're doing that now.

To fix your name, either log out of Bugzilla and log in again (preferred), or go to the My Account page and change your name (to something incorrect) then set it back.

Apologies for the inconvenience.

now I logged out and logged in again.

Cheers, Jörg

Thanks, Denis. This worked:

1. Logout and login to Bugzilla
2. No change.
3. Go to MyAccount
4. Change my name to e.g. "Joerg Thoennes"
5. Refresh this bug -- displays "Joerg Thoennes"
6. Change my name to "Jörg Thönnes"
7. Refresh this bug -- displays "Jörg Thönnes" correctly.

Happy to have this resolved now :-)

Cheers, Jörg

Ralf, please forward my instructions above to Rüdiger.

Will close this bug now.
Comment 12 Denis Roy CLA 2012-04-19 08:44:47 EDT
Thanks for testing that, Jörg. It appears our data is correct UTF-8, but since Bugzilla maintains its own copy of your name, the conversion we did in December 2011 must have been incorrect.

I'll run a script to compare our LDAP entries to Bugzilla, and if there's lots of incorrect Bugzilla data, I'll just update it.

You are welcome, Denis.

Thanks Jörg, I forwarded your instructions and they worked for Rüdiger as well.

The issue reappeared today. See my last name (should be Hänsel).

The work-around described in https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=374895#c10 works (so my name is fixed now, but e.g. Jörg's is still broken).

I'm not sure whether this bug reappeared exactly today, but it can't be long ago.

Thanks, Fabian, for reminding me of my own workaround :-) I had forgotten about it. Now it is also working for me.

The question remains: How could this happen again?

Grrr, this is happening again. There is something somewhere that is messing up the names. I'm looking into it.

I found the culprit. LDAP was always correct, but when logging in to the site_login, the BZ tables were being updated with the incorrect charset.

I've fixed the site_login. To fix your BZ name (which will also percolate to EclipseCon and other places), simply re-log-in here:

Thanks, Dénis. Now it looks much better :-)

Finally solved this for me and other... Jörg

Feel free to close unless there is anything missing to do.
I just used the site login URL and it looks good.
So this would not happen again in the future I guess.

Oh, I spent some major effort to add the accent aigu ;-)
