Launch configurations are very very system dependent and are not shareable among different machines.

Product files however are system independent, define the complete product and can be used in the workbench to create launch configurations. For the RCP case this works excellent.

Unfortunately the "Launch as RAP Product" button is in no ways comparable to the RCP analogon. As it is, it's close to unusable due to Bug 321362 and Bug 355053.

Additionally a RAP Launch configuration contains the "Main" tab where servlet, port, internal/external browser and other options are specified. There should be a way to define these values in the product file.
