Description Cedric Dumoulin CLA 2010-09-17 11:20:00 EDT
Some methodologies require to build complex constructs in a diagram. A complex construct can be, as example, a class with several ports, each having a particular stereotype and particular values for their direction.
We want to be able to specify a template of such construct, and be able to build an instance of the template from the palette or a menu. The template can require parameters, like the number of repetition of an element, the name of the stereotypes to apply (chosen in a list), ...
The template is designed in a UML model, using the regular diagram, and maybe a dedicated profile. Once designed, the template is available in palette and menus.

Here when we say template, it doesn't necessary mean UML template. A template is a description of what we want, with some 'holes' that will be fulfilled when the template is instanciated.
