I just downloaded eclipse modeling 3.6M7 and tried to install Ecore Tools via Help->Install Software. I chose the Helios update site and selected the feature. But then Eclipse stays in "calculating dependencies" for at least an hour (I canceled then). Probably "calculating dependencies" needs to be performance tuned. It seems to download hundreds of jars to do it's job. I wonder if that really is necessary to install a single feature. The same behaviour occured when downloading Eclipse for Java Developers 3.6M7 and then trying to install EMF SDK. It's just impossible if you can't spare hours of waiting.
There was an issue in M7 that caused more repositories to be consulted. This has been fixed in RC1.
I think you are being hit by bug 311929, which was fixed in RC1. Can you try on that build?
I still see this problem with Helios. Version info: Version: Helios Service Release 2 Build id: 20110218-0911 I'm using Mac OS X 10.6.6. I saw the problem when I went to Eclipse Marketplace. I searched for Subclipse and clicked the "Install" button. Since then, I've seen a window titled "Confirm Selected Features". I can't do anything in this window except click the red stop button beside the progress bar. Above the bar, it reads, "Calculating requirements and dependencies."
