Description David M. Karr CLA 2009-07-08 19:18:59 EDT
I'm not sure what happened, but in the last couple of weeks the newsgroup posting flow somehow got broken, such that even with a valid Bugzilla login, I'm unable to post questions to the newsgroups.

I see a couple of different odd symptoms.

While looking at the group message list, I click "New Message", which sends me through the "Eclipse Login" page. I enter my valid Bugzilla principal and password and click OK. What this does is just redisplay the page, with no error message at all. I've experimented with entering an invalid password, and this does redisplay the page with an invalid login message. With a valid user/password combination, it just redisplays with no additional content.

In some cases, however, I manage to get to the page where I can enter my post, but when I click Submit, it goes to a page saying I don't have permission to post.

If it matters, I'm currently trying to post to "eclipse.modeling.mdt.uml2tools".

I have no idea how to proceed.

Have you recently changed your Bugzilla password? A couple of other people have reported this, but I cannot seem to reproduce it.

I've had the same login and password for a long time. No.

Note that I'm not a registered "Friend of Eclipse". Is that what could be causing this?

They are unrelated.

I don't know whether it matters, but this morning I tried changing my password and logging back in, and then I was able to successfully post a note. Perhaps the path you take when changing your password is slightly different than the normal login.

Thanks for the feedback. Actually, I think I solved the problem in bug 257675. I'll mark this bug as a duplicate.
