The current PDE ui says "plugin" all over the place. in many cases this is somewhat redundant (given the user is in the plugin editor for eample). In most cases the element being discussed is indeed a generic bundle thing. As such the use of "plugin" is a little offputting for OSGi natives.
sorry, concretely I porpose that the UI text strings be reviewed and the word "plugin" removed. I am NOT saying that we do the in a systematic witch hunt sort of way but rather understand that many consumers of the text erroneously think that there is a difference between a plugin and a bundle and so ascribe some semantics to "plugin" that we do not (should not) intend.
I think in 4.0, we simply remove the word plug-in and use bundle. This is related to: 167438: Rename PDE to reflect its evolving role https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=167438 I actually went through the UI today and remove areas we didn't need Plug-in... ie., like "Plug-in ID" to "ID" etc
I'm just going to mark this one a dupe of bug 167438. It's fundamentally the same thing. If you open up bugs for specific areas of PDE that you'd like to see changed, that would work for me. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 167438 ***
I think this is actually closer to bug 149113. The request is more to do with the terminology that appears in the PDE UI, rather than a fundamental change of direction for the PDE project. In any case, it's a known issue with existing bugs, so this is definitely a dup. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 149113 ***
