+++ This bug was initially created as a clone of Bug #252809 +++ Must use ICU4J.
ICU4J is a third-party library, since we provide stand-alone capabilities for EMF Compare, we try to keep third-party jars usage to a bare minimum. Using ICU4J would force our users to have its jar in their classpath, not to mention the added size. Would it be possible then to ignore this Galileo requirement? Pending approval of Ed Merks.
Yes, EMF has the same issue.
EMFT Ecore Tools has never found a need for ICU4J's capabilities and doesn't currently use it.
Mint doesn't directly use any localization classes and thus there's nothing to replace with ICU4J. If a need arises in the future, ICU4J will be utilized.
I consider this issue fixed.
