BIRT_2.3_Translation_files

The attached zip file contains BIRT 2.3 translated *.properties files for de_DE, es_ES, fr_FR, ja_JP, ko_KR, and zh_CN.

Please integrete this into Babel Server.

Thank you,
Doshiro.

I need to put these through the Eclipse IP process. Before doing so, I need to know who wrote them, and if they were generated by software, what software was used.

Thanks!!
Comment 2 Yasuo Doshiro CLA 2008-06-27 16:27:06 EDT
We are localizing BIRT into 6 languages since release 1.
Translation is done by SDL Plc.

Thank you,
Doshiro.

I imported this on our staging area with miserable results. As it turns our, our import script expects a UTF-8 or similar encoding, and here is what you have provided:

for i in $(find . -type f); do file $i | awk '{print $2 $3 $4}'; done | sort | uniq -c
      1 ASCIICprogram
     28 ASCIIEnglishtext,
      5 ASCIItext,with
      1 Bourneshellscript
      5 ISO-8859Cprogram
    146 ISO-8859Englishtext,
    146 ISO-8859text,with
      2 Non-ISOextended-ASCIIC
     35 Non-ISOextended-ASCIIEnglish
     33 Non-ISOextended-ASCIItext,
      1 UTF-8UnicodeEnglish
     30 UTF-8Unicodetext,
     12 XMLdocumenttext

I converted all the ISO-8859 files to UTF-8 and that seems to work. I'm reimporting now to see if I need to do further conversion.
Comment 7 Denis Roy CLA 2008-07-18 14:58:55 EDT
The conversion looks much better, however lots of strings have double quotes:

PngWriter.info.save.elapse.time=Enregistrer l''image en tant que {0} [temps écoulé = {1} ms]
SwingImageCache.info.loading.swing.image=Chargement de l''image SWING depuis {0}
SwingImageCache.info.using.swing.cached.image=Utilisation de l''image SWING en cache depuis {0}

Whereas some only have one:
SwingTextMetrics.exception.undefined.shadow.color=Rendu d'ombre impossible avec une couleur non définie

Kit, do you know if these double quotes are critical, or should they be fixed?
Comment 8 Kit Lo CLA 2008-07-18 15:08:40 EDT
Strings that will be processed by Java MessageFormat should have the quotes doubled.

The most propular practice is to only process strings with subsitution vars (like {0}) with Java MessageFormat.

According to your samples, the translations seem to look okay.

Conversion script

After examining the import on staging, it was obvious that the import had failed. After a bit of investigation, I realized that the files themselves were not in UTF-8 format (which is what my importer expects). I had to do some digging and experimenting, as Linux wasn't able to determine the actual encoding for each directory, but in the end I figured it out. Attached is the shell script which runs through the directories and converts all the files to UTF-8.

ja: SHIFT_JIS
ko: EUC_KR
zh: GB2312
es, fr, de: ISO8859-1

I'm re-running the import on staging now.
Comment 10 Denis Roy CLA 2008-07-21 11:10:23 EDT
I've completed the import on the staging area. It looks really good.

Kit, Doshiro, can you use the Recent Translations page and go through all six languages I've imported (German, Spanish, French, Japanede, Korean, and Chinese) displaying the last 5000 translations and do a sanity check before I import this to the live database?

http://babel.eclipse.org/staging/recent.php

I will wait for both Kit and Dorhiro's +1 before importing.
Comment 11 Kit Lo CLA 2008-07-21 12:26:51 EDT
I've reviewed the recent translations for all 6 languages (note to other reviewers, the Chinese is Simplified Chinese). All characters are converted properly (especially the double-byte chars for Japanese, S Chinese, and Korean). Single quotes in French seem to be okay.

+1 from Kit to have the translations released to the live server.

Mori-san,

Actuate Corp. has donated translations for BIRT 2.3.0 in 6 languages. Japanese is included.

The current import method will cause these translations to overwrite any JWG translations for Birt 2.3.0. Can you please review the JA translations for Birt 2.3.0 on the staging area to make sure they fit?

I have reviewed 6 languages and they look OK.

+1 from Doshiro to have the translations released to the live server.

Mori-san,

We are anxious to get these translations into the Babel server :-)

The translations have been imported into the Babel server. They will be in tonight's nightly build, and this weekend's weekly build. Thanks!
