Please add a search field to the package explorer similar to the one in Preferences and other dialogs.
This handy feature is sadly missing from a central component in the JDT.
With it I could easily find resources (not just Java classes). 

Filters do not provide this feature since they are only exclusive (filter out resources but cannot limit the view to only show resources that match a specific pattern), and the functionality needs to be more accessible, not hidden in a separate dialog.
