I'm a project team member for The IDE Meta-tooling Platform project.  I'm trying to update the information on our project summary page (http://www.eclipse.org/projects/project_summary.php?projectid=technology.imp).  In particular, I'd like to update the field "Project Web Site."

I followed the links from the summary page to the page with the instructions for updating the project data
(http://www.eclipse.org/projects/dev_process/project-status-infrastructure.php).
In the table there, in the section "standard project info page", there didn't seem to be any item that addressed "Project Web Site."

Elsewhere in the table, in the "/projects/ page" section, there is an item for "Home Page", which is represented by the meta-data field "projecturl."  I went to the portal and updated projecturl with the value for our project home page, and now our project home page is indeed linkable from the Eclipse Projects page.  That's great--and I needed to do that, too--but the link still doesn't show up on our project summary page.


I was going to file a bug report on this and searched first for bugs related to "process" and "project summary page".  That lead me to bug #215295, where a comment #4 (from just a week ago) included a link to this reference

That document claims that the Project Web Site will come from the foundation records.  That leads me to a couple of comments/questions:

1)  In the "Updating the Data" table there are other fields that are identified as having values set based on the Foundation internal database.  Why not this one, too?

2)  As noted, team members can set the projecturl field for their project on the "Eclipse Projects" page, which makes it seem strange that they can't set it on their project summary page.  Unless the project "Home Page" and the "Project Web Site" are intended to be two different pages.  But that would be really confusing and would still benefit from some explanation.

3)  If it will indeed be set from Foundation records, when and how will that happen?  Do we have to get to certain point in the process first?

I agree that it's not clear how you can change the information on the project summary pages.  The 'click here' link at the top of the page leads to this Wiki page full of words:

http://wiki.eclipse.org/Development_Resources/HOWTO/Project_Meta-Data

That wiki page needs to be updated so that instructions are clear from the committer's perspective.

I have updated the Wiki page to put the What/Who/How at the top.  I think this makes it clear.  Please reopen (or edit the Wiki page) if you feel it's still unclear.
