Description Jim Zhang CLA 2007-12-19 13:17:22 EST
I think the perspective should have the snippet view in the right pane where the outline currently is.

Also, for products to contribute stacked views to the bottom left corner, there has to be an existing view defined there already. I propose that the outline view be moved there.

So it will look like this:

 _______________________
| | | |
| | | S |
| P.E. | | N |
| | | I |
| | | P |
|______|___________| P |
| | | E |
| O.L. | | T |
|______|___________|____|

Along with the proposed changes, I also widen the Project Explorer view area to be consistent with JEE perspective (increased from 20%, which was too narrow, to 25%)

I've never liked the OL view in Lower left corner ... seems inconsistent.

And ... I know, I know ... I can always change my own defaults :)

But ... if the _only_ reason we are doing it is to allow adopters to contribute a view there, then that's the wrong reason for sure.

We should either "fix" that fundamental problem, or find a more "neutral" view to put there. How about a tiny/cheap "image viewer" that would use GEF (or something?) to make a quick thumbnail of images selected in navigator?) ... just as one idea.

oh, and I'd prefer JEE and Web perspsectives be consistent with snippets view.

We should strive to make these two perspectives as identical as possible in WTP.

Agreed. There are far more ways to control what's visible within and the space required for the Snippets view than the typical Outline, meaning I'd rather the Outline view be given the larger space. I also think it works well to have an overview of resources on the left and the resource-specific outline on the right.

Increase Project Explorer pane to 25% from 20% in web perspective

Included misc. patch to increase P.E. width to 25% to be consistent with Java perspective as well as JEE perspective.

After discussion w/ Nitin and Jim, I decided that the best course of action was to increase the Project Explorer's area, and to put the Snippets view in the same area as the Outline view.

I am concerned with how little space the Outline view still has- in Java EE perspective, we start it at .7, the Java perspective starts it at .75, but the Web perspective starts it at .8, which seems thin. But Jim wants it to remain as such for now.

I committed my changes to HEAD.
