Steps To Reproduce:
A user of our gef application reports that it is extremely difficult to get the canvas to auto scroll thereby making it very tough to make long connections.

There is a solution outlined in Bug 229726 "Improvements to auto-scrolling behavior in GEF" that I think will resolve this issue.
