RSECorePlugin.getDefault().getRegistry() is awkward. 
We should have 

RSECorePlugin.getCoreRegistry()

Resolved as part of the work on 177523, see bug #177523 comment 8.
It's now RSECorePlugin.getTheCoreRegistry().
