Eclipse needs to be started with
-Dorg.eclipse.jdt.ui.coloredlabels=true
or
-Dorg.eclipse.jdt.ui.coloredlabels=x:y to configure different bound offsets

With the new launcher story, the option line has to go into 'eclipse.ini'

In HEAD, there's now an experimental preference on Java > Appearance.
