Description Kevin McGuire CLA 2007-01-09 15:09:38 EST
Build N1220 (2006)

As described in #169742, I was getting an error on File->Export->Deployable Plugins as follows:

File D:\eclipse workspaces\ArpEggDevel\JMusic\src\instruments\SawtoothInst.java
is specified more than once

Olivier was kind enough to come by to debug the problem and it turned out that in the build.properties I had:

    source.. = .,\
               src/

so I had overlapping source locations for the batch compiler input.

It would be really good if PDE were to give an error in this case. As it was, there was no real information to go on to find the error (and other users won't have Olivier handy).

How I got into this situation was by changing the project from having source at its root to having /src and /bin folders. I vaguely recall having received errors in the build.properties and picking the quick fixes to resolve them (clearly the wrong way). But the red X's went away!

Since the problem originates in the build.properties, there should be an error there.

Another way to look at this is that the build.properties should inform you when it differs from the project properties (where there was only the one /src folder specified). Should this be a different bug report?

This bug report captures the real issue sufficiently. Thanks.

Should get fixed by 3.4... tagging bugday... attaching context.

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
