It would be nice to have connection bendpoints.  Perhaps this can be a connection style.  GEF supports this so it should not be too much work.

It would also be nice to be able to customize the connection router.  By simply changing GraphLayoutConnection to public people can get access to the connection figure and thereby customize the router.  Nicer would be to expose a connection router provider or something like that.

Sorry for the late answer, but I would like to ask how does these patches relate to the custom router support implemented in bug 284972 for Zest2?

I have not enough background on changes done on Zest 2 compared to Zest 1, but this patch does not seems to be relevant anymore.
It seems bendpoint support has been removed in Zest 2. 
With bugs 284972 even it is now possible to set BendpointConnectionRouter, it seems there is no way to set RoutingConstraint (List of BendPoints)
