Description Randy D. Smith CLA 2006-07-01 22:44:33 EDT
In trying to respond to an eclipse.newcomer posting, I was trying to encourage *reading the documentation*, but when I went to main website => Callisto is here => I develop C/C++ => Tutorials => Import existing ... two tutorials... they're completely useless! Are these the first pages of a multi-page tutorial... with no navigation buttons? Animated tutorial whose animation is broken? It gives a *very* bad first impression for a topic that *is* of primary importance to many first-time CDT users!

Help => Help Contents => C/C++ Development User Guide => Getting Started => Importing ... ends up with the same useless pages!! No workaround there!

Feel free to fix it up and send in a patch.

Believe it or not I did take a look at this. First I checked on one of my suspicions... that this actually works well for somebody, and that I was either doing something wrong or missing something obvious. It was the latter... on my office 19" LCD, I see the small arrow for "next slide" above the screen shot... that was unnoticeable originally on my 15" laptop screen.

I'll look at this more in depth later and see if I can see an EASY change that would make the "proceed" more obvious. By the way... what was I expecting? A "slide show" would have been my second most obvious expectation (after an animated "movie-like" presentation), but in that case a more prominent control would be necessary.

At least it wasn't as DOA as it originally appeared to me. Lowering severity to normal as a result.

Updated CDT basic project tutorial to cheatsheet format

Using the old basic tutorial as a guide I converted it to cheatsheet format to present a more current implementation of the information. Using the new cheatsheet editor I was also able to add command-links and doc links to help the user orientate themselves.

Also added C/C++ Development category to the Help > Cheat Sheets list to group additional CDT tutorials.

Will update import one next.
