Description lorenzo CLA 2006-05-22 10:02:49 EDT
Hi, I think Display view needs some enhancements.

- undo. It's too easy to loose anything just for a wrong key press

- current line display: if you do not select anything and press ctrl+shift+d it should try to evaulate and display current line (like F3 does not require to select method name I think Display should not require this)

- syntax colouring

- maybe something else, like F3, javadoc tooltip, ecc. but this is less important

Bye

Lorenzo

Deferred for future consideration (note that undo works in 3.2).

Now that "Later" state has been deprecated, should this bug's resolution be changed to something else, or is it effectively a "Wont fix"?

Evaluating the current line on ctrl-shift-d if there is no selection would be really nice. IIRC, that's how DoIt works in Squeak, and it is very convenient.

While the LATER resolution is deprecated, we are not changing the resolution of our entire later box at this time.

This bug is still deferred (we don't plan to fix in this release). Adding the helpwanted keyword, contributions are welcome.

Do you guys want to break out this bug into smaller bugs for bugday? I'm not sure what the actual request is.

Changing this bug to be an enhancement request for UNDO/REDO actions in the Display view. Reopening for bugday.

Opened Bug 201429 for the improving the autoselect when inspect/display/evaluate is run.

Bug 13232 has been around for a while and deals with syntax highlighting. Not clear how this should be improved.

What should be enhanced here ?

The Undo/Redo is available in the "Edit" menu and it works fine. In the Java editor there is an "Undo" section in the context menu which is not present in the display view.

The Display view has not been a priority for the debug team, but apparently some work went into fixing things last year, including the undo actions.

Joern, maybe you could go through some of our display view bugs (most will either have [display] or 'display view' in the title) and see which ones are still valid.

This makes me wonder if some of the scrapbook bugs are invalid as well.

Thank you for the help. Marking as WORKSFORME.
