It would be really helpful to have a link to the web services preferences from the web services wizard. This is something we considered for the recent usability improvements to the wizard but were not able to contain. In subsequent discussions with Janet Mockler, Lawrence Mandel and May Zhu we wondered whether there could be an Eclipse level JFace wizard page to preferences link similar to the help link that was added to the bottom left of the wizard page in 3.2 M6. Janet agreed to follow up on some of our ideas with the Eclipse team.
Joan, this is a longer term item, not a change for WTP 1.5, correct?
Yes, Chris, you're correct -it's post 1.5. Janet is starting some investigation over handling this from the Eclipse wizard level instead of a wizard by wizard basis.
that's right... also with the intent that final solution would come from the same folks who are responsable for the newfangled 'question mark' which invokes dynamic help to the right side of the wizard... so the eclipse framework guys and gals. I need to talk with Linda W to see if its something that has been considered previously.
Although not an enhancement that can be contained in time for Callisto I think this is a great bug opened by Joan during the Callisto development time frame. This bug identifies an improvement that can be made to simply life for users of Eclipse wizards. This bug will be used to drive a change in the platform that came from WTP user experience. Already interested are the WTP Web services team and the WTP UI consistency team. As Janet helps push this with her contacts in the platform post WTP 1.5 we should start to see some concrete progress.
This is an enhancement, not a bug.
What is the status of this enhancement proposal? This is defenitely an usability improvement feature for a handy access to preference setting.
Hi Janet, Is there any update from the Eclipse framework folks? Has an RFE been opened on Eclipse platform on this?
Given the resource on the project, there's currently no plan to implement this feature.
