Using I0309, you will see on the attached screenshot that the expansion on the icons in the vertical bar is overlapping on the source code.
If the expansion would be either to the left or vertical, then we could still see the source code.

All information is currently shown into the editor, e.g. hovers for vertical or overview annotations.

We could investigate showing them vertically but that will hide other annotations in the ruler.
