Description Jean-Pierre Lambert CLA 2005-10-27 09:27:29 EDT
Hello,

I would like to know if I could get any download statistics about eclipse.org;
unfortunately I don't find this information anywhere.

Could anyone help me? I'm looking for download statistics about the AspectJ and
AJDT projects.

Thanks in advance,

Jean-Pierre Lambert

Moving to AJDT.

Eclipse Committers have access to download stats, and they decide if they want
to publish such statistics.

Hi Jean-Pierre,
For the month of September the eclipse.org servers registered about 20,000
downloads of AspectJ and AJDT. That's counting a zip install as one download,
and an install via update site as one download (for AJDT each individual plugin
in the feature registers a hit on the web server, so we make sure we only count
the set of plugins as a single download).
Hope that helps,

Matt.

Thanks for the answer Matt,

But currently my interest goes to know how many of these 20,000 downloads were
AspectJ downloads and how many were AJDT downloads. Do you see what I mean?

Besides I would be glad if you had longer-term statistics too.

Thanks again,

JP

Hi JP,

Most people obtain AspectJ by getting AJDT, as indicated by the eclipse.org top
10 downloads, with AJDT currently at #8 and AspectJ at #10. It varies slightly
month to month but AJDT generally accounts for 60 - 70% of the total.

Unfortunately the interface we have for querying downloads only contains data
from the start of the previous month, so I can't go back any further.

Regards,

Matt.

No probs. Are you just curious, or are you writing an article on AspectJ or Eclipse?

I'm working on a language project and I was interested to know if people would
be interested, at first, in only using a compiler without any Eclipse integration.

AspectJ and AJDT, its Eclipse integration counterpart, seemed to hold some
answer to this question.
