If possible we should also try to use the same icon in the vertical ruler. In addition, there are two separate color preferences for the editor and the view. The editor annotation colors have to work well with the editor fg/bg colors, but the colored labels are used in views (with table/tree widget fg/bg). Note that we already have a "Write Occurrences" annotation, and it looks the same as the label color. The problem is that this is only used as background color in the editor when the variable is selected. This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.
