Hi,

I think it's a good idea. Using characters with strong semantics is usually a good thing for accessibility (screen readers for example) than composing characters of different semantics to give them another meaning.
The first step could be to open bugs to change that in Platform UI, JDT and PDE so they would show the example for others to mimic.

It may be a very fast change to implement with a search/replace on all .properties files.
