Re: [tracecompass-dev] Vote for Committer status for Jean-Christian Kouame was started by Matthew Khouzam

Hi Alex and all,

As the nominator, I am still learning how to write a good nomination
message. I don't practice that much believe it or not. :)

Some context for other readers. Jean-Christian did an internship at
Ericsson working on trace compass. He then did a masters where his work
was in Trace Compass. Then he worked here at Ericsson for 6 months, on
Trace Compass productifying his masters work and merging it piece by
piece. Alexandre was an active reviewer on this item, just like me,
Genevieve, Francis, Marc-Andre, Bernd and Patrick.

If this is the case, what you are doing is using your vote (the last
one) to delay the process. The nomination process does exist, it is what
was used for me, and you. If you want to harden it a bit, feel free to
make suggestions. If someone who did a masters in our project and then
continued to work on it showing great enthusiasm and touching all the
projects despite some odd interactions early in his career is not
committer material, I don't think any of us could be committers.

The process may have been a surprise for you. I think it was implied
(and can be clarified, this is an opportinuty for success) that when
someone finishes their first big project, they can be nominated. I was
very excited when I saw that the XML analysis was ready earlier than
expected. Then again, you saw the amount of patches pertaining to XML
dwindle as each part got merged. This is a surprise 4 months in the making.

One thing to be careful though with is, if there are hard criteria, we
may find people min-maxing to meet the criteria.

About the timing? Why is this not ideal? What makes it problematic? Will
giving JC a vote of confidence right now not be helpful to lessen the
burden of reviews?

/Matthew
