Re: [tools-pmc] Eclipse Memory Analyzer release review

Hi all,

@Andrew , apologies for not sending a note on the mat-Dev list earlier to update anyone on the status of the release preparation.
Here is the release tracking bug https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=534963

I already submitted the IP log and it got approved.
I’ll take care to update the project release records and ask for the release approval.

About the simrel- I made a contribution to M7.
I’ll be back on time to do the rc3 and rc4 contributions (if needed).
Our standalone packages will anyway be produced once Photon final bits are built. I’ll figure out until then what is wrong with the build.

Regards,
Krum

I encourage project teams to submit the IP Log and the PMC review requests in parallel. I need PMC approval of the release and the corresponding documentation. The IP Team will take care of the log.

Thanks,

Wayne

Hello,

Eclipse Memory Analyzer is intending to release version 1.8 as part of the Photon Simultaneous Release.

I see from here that we are meant to have submitted our IP log.

Unfortunately I think our project lead (Krum) is unavailable for the next week or two, and I am not sure if he has submitted the release review documentation including IP logs etc.
https://projects.eclipse.org/projects/tools.mat/reviews/1.8.0-release-review

Do we need to submit anything more?

I wasn't able to find submitted IP log for 1.8.0 in ipzilla so you would need to do that for review to be successful. The release review information is more or less non-existing - please at least link to your n&n document (https://www.eclipse.org/mat/1.8.0/noteworthy.html).

Actually reading your N&N I see it mentions Linux/GTK2, do you explicitly change SWT to run on GTK2? That's a very bad idea what causes issues in other projects that were doing it. I hope this is just a leftover but if it's not please contact me to discuss the reasons for this.

Also pointing to https://projects.eclipse.org/projects/tools.mat/releases/1.8.0 is the preferred way to see all the info about the release.

Technically we have this version currently in Photon
1.8.0.201805111338
which is a good version. I have committed a few Java 9/10 fixes since then and a new and noteworthy file, so we could do with submitting a final version. Krum might be back in time for that.

Unfortunately we have build problems:
https://ci.eclipse.org/mat/job/tycho-mat-nightly/771/
to
https://ci.eclipse.org/mat/job/tycho-mat-nightly/786/

See this for an example failure
https://ci.eclipse.org/mat/job/tycho-mat-nightly/785/consoleText
and I can't see what's going wrong with Tycho - it used to work.
534578: Build MAT 1.8 stand-alone packages with Eclipse Photon
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=534578
so although we have an update site built, the RCP build step then failed.

I have just tried it and build worked for me locally. Maybe trying to clean your build workspace?

Does anyone have some hints?

Andrew Johnson
