Re: [science-iwg] Chat about DAWNSci CQs?

Hi Jay,

Thanks for taking the time to find this out, this is very helpful. We are trying to resolve the HDF5 license which is required for dawnsci.

One thing to understand about dawnsci is that it is the public API for dawn i.e. something users of dawn can program against. It is our declaration of what will be available in DAWN binary long term. January and richbeans might have more hope in being actual reused projects. That said any help with IP checking is always appreciated.

Yes we can talk or Baha can let me know when he gets back.

Best Regards,

Matt

Subject: [science-iwg] Chat about DAWNSci CQs?

Matt,

Can we chat about the IP status of DAWNSci?

We briefly discussed this in our annual meeting on Wednesday and I agreed to reach out to you. Here are the notes:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1JfLdOIDlE9rYudCjZ9TnumULWDQgQMaz5N-SAdVOUiw/edit?usp=sharing

I met with Sharon Corbett on Wednesday to review the IP status of several of our projects in preparation for a simultaneous mini-release for Science in the fall. Most of our projects were OK, but we discovered two problems with DAWNSci. They were:

1.) Three of your CQs have expired because the auto-timeout when source code isn't attached.

2.) Several files have Apache license headers. These files were added in DataSet after the initial contribution.

Here's a link to the search results where we found these in IPZilla:

https://dev.eclipse.org/ipzilla/buglist.cgi?query_format=advanced&short_desc_type=allwordssubstr&short_desc=&product=technology&component=technology.dawnsci&long_desc_type=substring&long_desc=&bug_file_loc_type=allwordssubstr&bug_file_loc=&keywords_type=allwords&keywords=&emailassigned_to1=1&emailtype1=substring&email1=&emailassigned_to2=1&emailreporter2=1&emailcc2=1&emailtype2=substring&email2=&bugidtype=include&bug_id=&chfieldfrom=&chfieldto=Now&chfieldvalue=&cmdtype=doit&order=Importance&field0-0-0=noop&type0-0-0=noop&value0-0-0=

and GitHub:

https://github.com/eclipse/dawnsci/search?p=1&q=apache&utf8=%E2%9C%93

We need to address these regardless of whether or not you participate in a release. Baha said he fixed #2. Will you or your delegate look into #1 please?

Jay
