Re: [science-iwg] JDistlib

I finally had a chance to get back to this thread and review everything that Matthew, Torkild and Mike sent. There is a good amount of documentation on both EBR and Package Drone at [1] and [2] respectively. The recording of Gunnar's presentation for EBR is also very educational.

I'm very excited about EBR now and I see exactly how it will fit into the system I've proposed. So I think our ORNL team will have to give it a try. I'm having a little trouble understanding all of the features in Package Drone because it seems to do everything, but I *think* it could be used to publish the p2 repository created by Tycho with the bundles made by EBR to a centralized repository somewhere.

I think some combination of both of these would then get us in a position that we could deploy bundles to both the Marketplace and a repository to be used during development. I noticed that Package Drone also supports .deb and .rpm, which would make it possible for us to deploy native artifacts as well.

I'll keep you posted as I try things out.

Hi all,

I think it would be a good idea looking into the Eclipse Bundle Recipes [1] as Matthew Webber mentions. There is a discussion in the Orbit team to start using this mechanism [2][3], so I don’t think it’s dying. It’s just getting started. I did try it out on a few packages a couple of months back and it works like a charm.

For reference, Gunnar Wagenknecht gave a presentation on EBR at EclipseCon NA [4].

I’m cross-posting to the ebr-dev list as the committers there may shed some light on the current state.

Best regards,
Torkild
