Re: [science-iwg] Google Hangout tomorrow to discuss Python scripting for SWG

Thanks Jay for organizing and demo'ing the concrete examples of ICE scripting & job launcher. Its good to see that it fits in well and that we are converging on the right solution. Also thanks to all who were able to join - nice to see there is strong community interest in Python integration.

To summarize what we are proposing:

Three main stages of Python integration
1. Integrate Py4J into EASE
2. Integrate AnalysisRPC into EASE
3. Integrate EASE (now with Py4J and AnalysisRPC) into SWG projects

Eclipsecon Europe is our target date for having a working prototype/demo that demonstrates python calling java & java calling python.
By then we aim to have the main technical trade-offs understood & thought through as well as a roadmap for delivery, timeframes.

We are continuously capturing usecases, so we welcome anyone else who has any scripting/Python integration to give us a demo of their project.

Regards,
Tracy

Everyone,

Tracy's email about the work that Kichwa Coders is doing on IDataSet is a good segue into another topic: Python scripting requirements for the SWG!

We are having a Google Hangout tomorrow morning at 10:30 AM ET with the aim of:

- seeing ICE demos of the job launcher

- update on our Python support (ICE and AnalysisRPC)

- put forward a proposal for Python in EASE/ICE project

We invite you to join the Hangout. If you are interested, please send me an email so that I can add you to the calendar invitation.

Jay
