Re: [science-iwg] [location-iwg] X-group collaboration

Great idea Robert! A joint BoF might be a good thing for a meet & greet and go from there.

I'll put a stake in the ground, likely for Monday, March 9th @ 18:00. https://2015.foss4g-na.org/bof-session/science-locationtech-iot-collaboration

More soon,

Andrew

I agree that there are some great potential overlap between these working groups.  Could the co-location of FOSS4G and EclipseCon be a good chance to set up a joint meeting/get-together?

Hi Everyone,

(x-posted to LocationTech & Science lists)

At this week's code sprint in Philadelphia, I met with 7 LocationTech project leads. One of the things the group expressed interest in was collaborating with the Science working group, and IoT too. The feeling was there will be interesting intersections and common interest. The group felt this was stronger than the connection the group feels with the large community developing the Eclipse platform & IDE.

There was a bit of this starting to happen. I've noticed faces from each group starting to show up at events for the other group. There has also been some news/ idea/ opportunity flow in both directions since Science & LocationTech are groups I work on. IMHO we could really do some cool things.

The team suggested we might want to figure out a way to enable the groups to interact more. One thing suggested was a special mailing for any who want to collaborate across working groups. People could also subscribe to both lists I suppose. I'm happy to help nurture this... what do you all need/want?

I'll also share this with Ian & Benjamin who lead the IoT group too in hopes they might be interested.

Andrew
