Tanja -
Thanks for sending this out. A question for clarification.
I think this means that:
- The current list of Strategic, Enterprise, and Participant Members is provided at:
https://jakarta.ee/membership/members/.
- Any Strategic Member, Enterprise Member, Participant Member or Committer Member may nominate another Member for election.
Members should wait for the official announcement details before submitting a nomination.
- Strategic Members (i.e. member organizations) each have a representative appointed to these committees, and thus Strategic Member organizations cannot be nominated, or run, or vote
in any of these elections, as organizations.
- Two seats on each committee are allocated to Enterprise Members (i.e. member organizations). Each Enterprise Member organization can be nominated, and run, and vote for the Enterprise
Member seats in these elections, as organizations.
- One seat on each committee is allocated to Participant Members (i.e. member organizations). Each Participant Member company can be nominated, and run, and vote for the Participant
Member seats in these elections, as organizations.
- One seat on each committee is allocated to Committer Members. Committers may be considered Members by virtue of either a) being a Committer employed by a Strategic Member, Enterprise
Member, Participant Member, or b) an individual Committer who has executed the Jakarta EE Working Group’s Participation Agreement. Each Committer Member can be nominated, and run, and vote for the Committer Member seats in these elections, as Committer Members.
My intent is to clarify that all Committer Members may be nominated, and run, and vote for the Committer Member seats in these elections, as Committer Members. This is true whether they are a) employed by Strategic, Enterprise, or Participant
Members, or b) individual Committers who have executed the Jakarta EE Working Group’s Participation Agreement.
Is this correct?

Subject: [External] : [jakarta.ee-wg] Heads Up: Jakarta EE Elections to take place in September
Hello All,
this is an informational email about Jakarta EE elections that will take place in September. The intention is to make all eligible to run for the elections and/or vote aware ahead of time, so we can finish
the elections by the end of September. No action is required at this point.
Eclipse Foundation Working Group Charters identify the key committees that drive the various facets of each Eclipse Working Group for which there are annual elected positions to
be filled. In the case of the
Jakarta EE Working Group Charter, it indicates there are three committees each with elected positions to represent each of
the Enterprise Members, Participant Members, and
Committer Members. Strategic Members each have a representative appointed to these committees, and thus Strategic member companies do not participate in this election.
The Eclipse Foundation plans to hold the 2022 Jakarta EE elections on behalf of the working group
starting on September 6th with a view to have the election complete prior to the end of September.
Please note the following phases all elections follow:
-
Working Group Election Announcement
-
Nomination Phase (Call for Nominations/Extensions)
-
Nomination Acceptance Phase - Confirmation, Bio’s and Pictures Submissions
-
Notice of Candidates Standing Phase
-
Ballot Distribution Phase
The exact timelines for each of the phases and detailed instructions on what needs to be done will be announced in the email on September 6th.
The election process will follow the Eclipse “Single Transferable Vote” method, as defined in the
Eclipse Bylaws.
All members are encouraged to consider nominating someone for the positions, and self-nominations are more than welcome! Nominations must be received to the general mailing list
indicating related Committee/Seat by required deadlines in order to be considered.
Please wait for the official announcement details before doing so.
Membership Nomination Eligibility:
For
membership classes other than Committer Members, all individuals who are employed by an organization that is a member of that
class in the working group may stand for election.
Committer Members are those who are engaged in projects under the purview of the working group are eligible to stand for election. Committers may be considered members by virtue
of either a) being employed by a working group corporate member, or b) an individual committer who has executed the Jakarta EE Working Group’s Participation Agreement.
Ballots will be distributed via email to the members of each constituency eligible to vote. Should a situation arise where a tie occurs, then a tie breaker will be performed virtually.
Please note that ballot distribution may be provided by the Eclipse Foundation via a third party election service.
Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact me directly.
Thank You,
Tanja
