Re: [ide-dev] 10 ideas to improve Eclipse IDE usability

I agree with the ocean comment. We have 1600 bugs open on CDT which is not abnormal. We've been around that for years.

Denis, I don't think it's a problem with the tools. And I appreciate the effort to close older bugs. That's certainly a big help.

No, I think the real problem is that our ratios of user to contributor to committer is rediculously low. We have almost 100 change requests open against CDT. We have maybe the equivalent of maybe 4 full time committers. It's hard to see how we make progression with those numbers. And I think other projects are in the same boat, especially the platform ui from discussions I've had with Lars.

For me, the only solution is to make the IDE matter more to our community. Make it something they really want to contribute to. Something they'll find rewarding to contribute to. I have some ideas there, starting at install time that I hope to bring forward soon (once I get Qt support progressing in CDT). Love to hear other ideas.

Doug.

Too bad people prefer dropping a bottle in the sea instead of giving feedback on bugs.eclipse.org.

You’re saying they should be dropping the bottle in the ocean instead? ;P

You know, that is very insightful.  I am serious.

I'm curious how we could fix that...
