Re: [epp-dev] Adopting editor discovery

Hi Mickael,

if I understand it correctly, it is a preference that is by default set to 'system / text editor' and needs to be set to 'search marketplace' in the EPP packages?

I would recommend to open *one* bug for all packages, and ideally create one change for each package in Gerrit. That would make it really easy for package maintainers to accept this change.

Let me know if you need help.

Thanks,
Markus

Hi all,

With https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=480176 (and the several related issues), a mechanism to discover editors for unassociated types is now available in SimRel. See comment #22 on the bugzilla for a video demo.
I believe it's something very useful for our community of users who won't have to search plugins to edit some files, and for our community of Marketplace providers that will take advantage of this feature to provide a better visibility for their solutions. As a user, this change gives the impression that Eclipse IDE has support for about everything seamlessly.
I would like EPP packages to adopt it. It's a simple preference change. What's the procedure? Should I open 1 bug for each package and let their maintainer decide of whether to adopt it or not?

As for the _javascript_ package, a lot of important web formats (less, jsx, ts, tss, coffee, yaml...) currently don't have plugins from the Simultaneous Release but have some decent contributions on MarketPlace (and more to come). I find it important to anticipate this and provide a better way for users to find the extension they need rather than giving just the impression of missing support for some file types. Hence I would really love at least this package to adopt the discovery strategy.

Cheers,
