Re: [ee4j-community] Brand name selection, phase 2

All,

I've mused on this for several days.

I must say, "Jakarta EE" is brilliant. "Jakarta" is a highly familiar name although most people have no clue where it comes from. And, people already keep calling it "JEE". That fits perfectly. Go ahead with it.

Cheers, B

Hi,

I must admit, that I am (just a little) slightely disappointed about the new brand name, since I supported and encouraged to keep the name "Java EE". But since this is no option, "Jakarta EE" is fine.

Thanks everybody for "keeping the flag high"

Some brief preliminary observations in the community - Jakarta EE seems to be fairly warmly received. A good sign no doubt. Nice work.

Oops. I did state the end date on the poll, but forgot to include it in the email.

As Kevin said, EOB (EST) on February 23/2018.

We will help get the word out. Just to make sure, how long is the poll open? Keeping it open longer will help broader participation.

The community response to the first Phase of this process was awesome. The process of whittling those names down to a list of names that we could actually use was challenging and time consuming, but we're finally done and ready to get the community to help us with the selection.

The EE4J PMC considered numerous factors, but in the end the selection process effectively boiled down to identifying those names from the suggestions that The Eclipse Foundation can register and hold as a trademark on behalf of the community.

The choices are: "Jakarta EE" and "Enterprise Profile".

To answer the most obvious question... yes, we have consulted with our friends over at Apache, and they're cool with us using Jakarta.

Since we ended up with only two names, the use of a weighted poll is unnecessary, and so we're taking this forward with a simple "pick your favourite of the two" poll.

Note that this poll requires that you log in with a Google Account. We have configured the corresponding form to not capture your identity.

If you have any questions regarding the poll, feel free to ask them here.

Thanks,

Wayne
