This page lists a few links on how to get started contributing to Eclipse: https://eclipse.org/contribute/ . A first good step is to identify what you think is worth changing (small details are the best at the beginning), and to report them as bugs if not already existing.
If you wish to contribute code and if you're not familiar with the Eclipse programming model and contribution process, then you should first spend some time learning then. There are a few really good books and online tutorial on this topic. Then you'll be either able to try fixing the new issues you're detected and reported, or to pick one of the many interesting issues that are waiting for someone to work on them.
