[eclipse-dev] Re: DRAFT 2.2 Plan - Reduce workbench clutter

The "double click on the editor tab selector area" goes in the right
direction but suffers from an all or nothing kind of approach. That is,
either show me only my code window or everything associated with the current
workspace. And, if you want to see a pane not associated with the current
workspace, switching perspectives/workspaces rearranges the pane layout.

As I mentioned, with the IntelliJ IDE, you can pin a particular pane and it
will stay open while other panes are hidden. You're not bound by some
predefined workspace layouts. I'm really not able to do the IntelliJ
approach justice in this description. All I can say is that after working
over the years with good IDEs like Delphi, C++ Builder, VB, Visual Studio, J
Builder, Visual Cafe, and Forte- when I used IntelliJ I knew I reached
nirvana. And really the only thing they have that all the other products
don't have is the unique pane management capabilities. You can get a 30 day
demo from their site. Try it out and after using it I think you'll
understand what I'm talking about.
